Yesterday I spent the afternoon at the Brisbane Technology Park at Eight Mile Plains (which is about a 15 minute drive from the Brisbane CBD) for Griffith University’s Industrial Affiliates Expo.
Basically the Industrial Affiliates Program is an initiative which puts final-year uni students into a business to work on a specific project. The students work on-site and are treated like an employee – and since they’re working on a substantial project which will be used within the company it is more than just “work experience”.
The reason I went along is because my company – Ingenuity is interested in having some uni students help build a system which will streamline the day-to-day processes within the business. Being a Griffith student myself, I can appreciate the hands-on approach that the uni takes with such projects.
Overall, the afternoon was quite interesting and all the projects were of a very high standard. I’m awaiting an email from the IT Project Co-ordinator of the Nathan campus so we can submit our particular project requirements and hopefully be allocated an enthusiastic team that I can start bossing around – I can’t wait 🙂
