Saw the movie Prime during the week. It was a movie about a woman (Uma Thurman) who falls for a younger man after her divorce. In the midst of all this, Uma is seeing a psychiatrist (Meryl Streep) and the younger man happens to be the psychiatrist’s son.
The plot outline makes it sound like a comedy, but it’s more of a drama with a few rather humorous parts and up until the last 5mins of the movie it was really good. If you want to see this flick, then don’t read the comments below because they will spoil the ending for you. For those of you who don’t care – read on:
The movie tracks the mismatched relationship of a 37 year old woman with a 23 year old guy. The couple stay together for a bulk of the movie with one hiccup which they resolve, but then at the end it cuts to 12 months later and the guy is leaving a restaurant and sees Uma and they exchange glances and smiles through the window and he leaves.
Obviously sometime over those 12 months their relationship ended (which is reasonably realistic, and that’s not what I have a problem with) it’s the fact that the glance they share was a pleasant one and if a relationship breaks-up, it was: 1. done through a dis-agreement/fight and the couple probably wouldn’t be exchanging pleasant glances a few months later or 2. a mutual decision by both parties and if that was the case the two of them would have probably kept in contact… so once again, no real need for a glance – if they were your friend, you’d go up and have a chat.
Other than a disappointing ending, the rest of the movie was really good.
